Hifonics Brutus Subwoofers

By Gideon V. – Sonic Electronix Editor

Now you can add “Brute” force to your car audio system. The Hifonics Brutus line boasts some the hardest-hitting subwoofers in the industry. These efficiently tuned powerhouses will keep your seat vibrating and your ears ringing. The specially designed 100-oz. magnets are supported by nickel-plated ported back plates to reinforce the mainframe of the subwoofer as you “rock out” with your music bumping. This subwoofer can sustain peak performance even during the most intense musical breakdowns. The polypropylene cone enables this sub to endure the high temperatures found in the vehicle setting.

The Hifonics B10D4 is a 10” Brutus series dual 4 ohm subwoofer. This woofer can emit a chest pounding 500 watts of RMS power. Producing such intense bass puts a lot of stress on a subwoofer, but Brutus subwoofers are fashioned with a stitched Nitrile-Butadiene Rubber surround to prevent the woofer from tearing. The NBR material is a synthetic rubber that keeps the cone secure while the woofer reverberates to the rhythm. It is very strong and resistant to a wide range of temperatures, making it an ideal component in car subwoofers. The cone is reinforced with a special neck support to prevent the sub from falling apart throughout periods of heavy usage.

The Hifonics B15D2 is a 15” Brutus series dual 2 ohm subwoofer. You ears will be begging for mercy when you put this sub in your car, as it can handle up to 700 watts of continuous power! As with every Brutus subwoofer, the B15D2 has a polypropylene cone woofer that is stitched into place with a NBR surround. The anti-resonance magnet boot mitigates unwanted wave cancellation and is one of the reasons why this subwoofer is able to provide an amazingly accurate bass response.

Even though Brutus subwoofers absolutely pound, Hifonics designed them to provide amazingly clear playback as well. You can put your Brutus subwoofers in either a ported or sealed enclosure. Either way you, you will enjoy the best of both worlds: audio clarity with deep bass. Brutus subwoofers bang so loud, it’s brutal!

By Gideon V. – Sonic Electronix Editor

Living up to their mythical Greek god namesake, Hifonics Olympus subwoofers carry a tremendous amount of power. The Olympus subwoofer line is designed to provide maximum bass with minimal distortion. Beyond the excellent sound quality, Olympus subwoofers are built to handle the power from the largest of amplifiers. These subs feature oversized 3” voice coils to help dissipate heat while handling tons of power. One look at the massive double stacked magnets is all you need to know that these subwoofers are built to handle loads of power.

These Olympus subwoofers are available in 12” and 15” models. The Hifonics OLM1612 is a 12” Dual 2 Ohm Olympus series subwoofer that is rated at 1600 watts of RMS power. The dual voice coil configuration gives you more wiring options. Its special fiber-glass infused FEA structured cone is specially designed for added flexibility and heat dissipation. Weighing in at 33 pounds, this subwoofer is a heavy duty bass machine that will bring enough bass to get your car flexing with the beat.

The next step up in the Olympus line is the OLM2412, which you can think of as the OLM1612’s big brother. This 42 pound juggernaut can handle up to 2400 watts of continuous power! It is also designated at 2 ohms, and its dual voice coil configuration makes it easier to find an amplifier that can provide that type of power. It also is fashioned with a special fiber-glass cone, characteristic of Olympus models. With the right amplifier, this subwoofer will notify the entire neighborhood of your arrival.

Why stop at 12” if you have room for a 15” mega subwoofer? The Hifonics OLM1615 is a 15” Dual 2 Ohm Olympus series subwoofer. Rated at 1600 watts, this subwoofer will blow you away with its absolute power. That’s a lot of bass! But even the OLM1615 has a big brother: meet the OLM2415. This 15” Dual 2 Ohm subwoofer is the definition of a heavyweight. Its die-cast aluminum chrome speaker frame is one of the reasons this beast weighs in at a scale-tipping 65 pounds! It can handle a jaw-dropping 2400 watts of RMS power. That’s enough power to let the whole block know that you are back in town and mean business.

Hifonics recommends housing Olympus subwoofers in ported enclosures for optimal performance.  If you hook up these subwoofers with a great amplifier and amp kit, all of your friends will envy your car stereo system.

Infinity Reference 6022i 6-1/2″ Speakers

By Gideon V. – Sonic Electronix Editor

Upgrade your car speakers with a pair of the Infinity Reference 6022i 6-1/2” 2-way car speakers.  These speakers are actually suitable for mounting holes sized between 6-1/2” and 6-3/4”. They are standard 6-1/2″ speakers, but they include adjustable brackets to make them compatible with 6-3/4″ mounting locations.

Adding the REF6022I speakers to your vehicle will bring both bass and clarity to your car audio system. Each of these speakers is rated at 60 watts of continuous power, which means you will get plenty of “thump” out of these components. How do these speakers produce that much bass at only 6-1/2 inches in diameter?  For starters, these speakers feature Plus One woofer cones. The Plus One name indicates that these speakers use cones with a larger surface area in comparison to competing models within the same size group. This results in a speaker that produces more bass at a greater efficiency than the average speaker.

Infinity Reference speakers are carefully crafted with injection molded polypropylene woofers. This cone material enables the speakers to maintain peak performance levels, even while experiencing the extreme temperature fluctuations that commonly occur in the vehicle setting. The result is clear, crisp sound with minimal distortion. Further, these speakers also feature built-in 1-3/4” edge-driven textile dome tweeters. The tweeters are oversized, which helps to manage the temperature at higher wattage levels. Another cool aspect is the special UniPivot design, which allows you to point the tweeter at the listener. This allows you to create a realistic sound and consistent audio response. You can even adjust the tweeters (0 and 3 dB variable settings) in order to find the perfect sound! All in all, these 6022i speakers are a great value and will likely meet or exceed your expectations!

Blaupunkt PCxb652 6-1/2” Speakers

By Gideon V. – Sonic Electronix Editor

The Blaupunkt company has been a leading innovator in car audio components for over 80 years. They continually strive to provide great products at affordable prices. And dollar for dollar, you won’t find a better deal than the Blaupunkt PCxb652 6-1/2” 2-way car speakers. These speakers are an affordable way to upgrade your stock system. Now you can upgrade their car audio system without breaking the bank. Categorized in the Blaupunkt ProComponent line, these speakers are designed with polymer injected cone cones for enhanced volume production. They are also fashioned with a foam surround to sustain peak performance for years to come.

Despite their small size, these speakers can handled up to 50 watts of continuous power. While the bass response won’t exactly blow you away, these speakers provide just enough bass to create a realistic sound. Considering the price, the 91 dB sensitivity rating is very impressive. These Blaupunkt speakers will provide clear tuned highs and mids. In fact, these speakers have built-in 1” semi-dome tweeters, which is why they can emit clearly defined high notes. Altogether, these speakers provide an all-around, well balanced sound.

If you are looking to power one pair of these speakers, you will likely want to use a 2-channel amp or bridge a 4-channel amplifier that will provide 35-50 watts of continuous power per channel (each speaker). If you only use your aftermarket head unit to power them, the result will still sound better than your factory setup, but you will experience suboptimal performance. Speaking of which, replacing your factory speakers with the PCxb652 speakers is made easier with the special multi-hole mounting system. This simplifies the install since it is easy to line it up these speakers with the old holes used by the factory speakers. Consider that the install itself is easy enough and the price is as low as it is, these speakers are a steal of a deal!
