Sound Dampening Material Enhances Sound Quality

Dynamat Extreme Bulk Pack

By Seth Wilde – Product Specialist

Getting better sound quality is the reason we upgrade our vehicle’s factory audio system.  The OEM speakers don’t play the music the way that they should and the amplifier is not as powerful as we need.  If the car came with a subwoofer, an upgrade to an aftermarket subwoofer will provide deeper and cleaner bass from your music.  By installing and tuning some aftermarket car speakers, subwoofers, and amplifiers, an entire new world of audible frequencies is available for us to listen to. Although this is where most people stop adding to their new car audio system, there is more that can be done to increase the sound quality.  That solution is in sound dampening material.

Sound dampening material has become increasingly popular in aftermarket installations as more individuals have experienced the benefits that come from having it in their cars.  Many companies such as Dynamat, Ballastic, Second Skin, HushMat, and others have developed new technologies to make this material a valuable component in every installation.  Some of the many benefits of adding this material include enhanced full range sound replication, deeper bass response, and increasing the overall sound of the music inside the car.  In addition to making the music sound better, sound-dampening material also reduces the amount of outside noise that is heard inside the vehicle.  No system is perfect without some quality sound dampening material.  There are many different packages available to meet the specific need of your car.  One of the more popular products is the Dynamat Extreme Bulk Pack.  This kit includes 36 square ft. of material, plenty for an entire car.  It is cut into smaller sheets for easier installation and use around the entire car.  They also offer smaller packages with less material, as well as trunk kits and license plate frame kits. Other manufacturers, such as Ballistic have similar products that offer equal performance to that of the Dynamat.  The procedure that Ballastic uses to make their sound dampening material results in a thicker compound.  All of these products are excellent for adding to any car, truck, SUV, and other vehicle.  For the best sound out of your audio system, invest in quality sound dampening material.

What is iTunes Tagging?

JVC Arsenal KD-AHD69

By Chelsey P. – Product Specialist

You may have heard about iTunes Tagging recently but you may not be sure about what it is or what it does exactly. Well, it is actually a way for listeners to engage with the HD Radio programming that they have on their receiver. If you have an iTunes tagging HD Radio receiver, the tagging process becomes really simple. Once you find an HD Radio station, the screen will display artist and track details. After finding the information you want to save, just press the “Tag” button to save song information that you like. The receiver than stores the song information and stores it onto a connected iPod. Now, how do you receive the song information that has just been saved to your iPod? Once your iPod has been synced to your computer, iTunes builds a playlists based on the tagged songs so that listeners can preview, buy and download their favorite songs. This comes in particularly handy if you tend to forget the names of your favorite songs.

Radio is one of the easiest ways for listeners to discover new music that they have never listened to before. And with iPod and iTunes becoming more popular every day, it is no wonder why they have decided to combine with HD Radio to make music easier to listen to. By having this integrated into your receiver, you will be able to download music conveniently to your iPod. The JVC KD-AHD69 is a perfect example of a head unit with the iTunes Tagging feature. It comes with built-HD radio with the iTunes tagging feature that will allow you to tag your favorite songs and put them on your iPod for later purchase.  This tagging feature is an innovative option that is not seen on most receivers just yet. As you can see above though, it is a neat option that will make listening to music easier than ever.

By Chelsey P. – Product Specialist

Buying a new receiver can be a daunting task. Do you go with a CD player, cassette player or a mixture of both? Cassette players are a thing of the past and CD’s are quickly becoming a fading memory, so what should you do in a time like this? The new age of Digital Media Receivers have been introduced to the public. They are unique in the fact that they do not have a built-in CD player. In place of a CD player they tend to have inputs such as USB or SD Card slots, auxiliary inputs and iPod connections. Multimedia receivers have definitely been designed for a consumer who loves music and has a ton of it on their MP3 player.

What should I look for in a Digital Media Receiver? An iPod Connection or USB Input is pretty much essential when it comes to choosing a good digital media receiver. Pioneer has recently introduced their 2010 line of multimedia receivers, including the MVH-P8200. This is Pioneers first mech-free single DIN In-dash receiver. It has iPod USB Direct connectivity making it perfect for iPod lovers. The iPod connection will charge, control and allow your iPod to playback through the receiver and stereo system.  If you do not have an iPod, just plug your thumb drive into the receiver for hours of music. An SD Card slot may be another expandability option to look for when choosing a receiver. The SD Card slot provides access to digital media such as MP3, WMA and DivX files. With both a USB input and SD card slot, you will have no problems choosing how to listen to all your favorite songs while in the car.

Have you ever thought about streaming Bluetooth audio directly to your car? Some new digital receivers come with built-in Bluetooth such as the Pioneer MVH-P8200BT. So not only can you listen to music through the USB Input and SD Card slot, you can stream music from a Bluetooth enabled phone! Digital media receivers will provide your vehicle with exceptional sound quality while being stylish at the same time.

Rock your Boat with Certified Marine Receivers

Clarion CMV1

By Seth Wilde – Product Specialist

High quality sound is one of the most important things that we can add to a boat in order to get the most enjoyment on the lake.  A respectable stereo or source unit, along with speakers and subwoofers, are the solution to getting the best sound out of your boat.  Some of the most impressive marine source Sonic Electronix has seen includes the Clarion CMS1, The Clarion CMV1, and the Kenwood KMR-700U.  Each of these name-brand units has unique features that separate it from the rest of the marine certified units out there.  One thing that is constant throughout each of them is excellent sound quality, user-friendly iPod integration, and marine certification.

Kenwood KMP-700U

This marine digital media receiver uses a head unit that is installed in the dash of the car, as well as a remote mount module that acts as the central audio hub.  The module can be installed inside the boat dash or anywhere there is room on the boat.  Connecting the two units is just a matter of connecting some cables.  The Kenwood KMP-700U lacks a CD player, but results in an open space that can be used as watertight storage.  The 4-line display is easy to read on the lake and the large buttons are designed specifically for this marine unit.

Clarion CMV1

One of our favorite marine stereos is this audio and video unit from Clarion.  The Clarion CMV1 is unique from all the other boat stereos in that it features a 3.5” full color LCD display for video playback.  Underneath the front faceplate is a slot to insert CDs and DVDs.  It is compatible with DVDs, as well as DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DivX formats.  As with other clarion units, it features the BBE MP Digital Sound processing and 24-bit digital-to-analog converter for incredible sound quality.  There are not too many marine units that feature video playback, but that is why Sonic Electronix loves the CMV1!

Clarion CMS1

For boats that do not have a lot of space to install a marine stereo, Clarion has released a mechless remote mount source unit that is designed for custom installations, as well as smaller boats.  The Clarion CMS1 has a central brain unit that deals with all the audio signals.  The USB input is designed especially for use with iPods.  The main unit connects to a smaller remote that can be mounted on the dash of the boat or any other place that is convenient.  This is a great choice for those that primarily use an iPod as the source of music and want an integrated, simplistic feel.
