Best Buys – Car Speakers Under $150

NVX V Series Speakers

A common question here at Sonic Electronix is, “What are some good car speakers that aren’t too expensive?” We all know that the answer to this is subjective. Now I’m going to give you my opinion as the Copyeditor and Product Specialist for this category. And as we all know, opinions are like a*******. Everyone has one. So, here is mine.

For a price point we’re going to set the maximum at $150 per pair. This seems like a reasonable place to start. I will also be focusing on coaxial speakers this time as this is what most people buy.

MB Quart Premium Series

The Premium Series is MB Quarts finest and top of the line speakers. Using the 40mm inverted dome Titanium WideSphere, top quality resonant basket and Composite Cone, the Premium line of speakers are a perfect choice for anyone looking to upgrade their speakers.

They come in a variety of sizes to suit everyone’s needs. They will definitely be on the brighter side of the sound spectrum due to the textile (titanium) tweeter and their WideSphere technology provides a wider high frequency soundstage for predictable high-end performance in nearly any mounting location. These are great for people who like to listen to their music loud or with the windows down. They do have a full sound and they are definitely the best MB Quart has to offer as far as coaxial speakers are concerned.

NVX V-Series

NVX V Series SpeakersThe V-Series from NVX are truly amazing. Naturally the bar was set high for these speakers as I have been thoroughly impressed with the X & N-Series offerings which preceded them, but the V’s blew away my expectations. With just the power from a standard head unit, these speakers lit up the interior of our demo car with brilliant highs and rich, powerful mids which really brought the music to life. The V-Series are available in a complete range of shapes and sizes to fit any application, and their highly efficient design ensures premium performance with nearly any power source.

Infinity Kappa Series

Infinity’s Kappa Series feature proprietary Injected Carbon Glass Matrix (iCGM) frames and patented formed-glass-fiber Plus One woofer cones. Each speaker’s coaxially mounted UniPivot tweeter is a soft-dome, edge-driven fabric diaphragm for improved power handling and wide high-frequency dispersion. The 2-ohm nominal impedance of the Infinity Kappa coaxial speakers allows compensation for any added resistance in thin factory-installed speaker wiring and provides more output than factory speakers in its class.

The high sensitivity of the Kappa Series makes it ideal for upgrading a factory-installed system’s existing speakers with very noticeable fidelity improvements. The beautiful chrome inserts on the grille match modern interiors, and thereInfinity Kappa Speakers are no visible mounting screws. With a modern look, articulate highs and strong lows, the Kappa series speakers are perfect for any factory or aftermarket sound system.

So, if you’re looking for an upgrade in quality and sound, check out SonicElectronix.com. and get yours today.

MB Quart Reference Series Speakers

Ohhh The 21st Century!

Technology has come a long way! For many years the construction for speakers was very simple; usually steel, foam, and paper. This worked fine but as the technology world advanced, car speakers needed to be updated. In order to improve the overall system performance, the MB Quart Reference Series speakers were introduced.

Offering component or coaxial speaker system with a 30mm tweeter, these systems provide deep and powerful sound. Each speaker features a low resonance cast ABS composite basket which allows the magnetism to be focused at the speaker providing louder sound with less power.

Standard foam material never lasted. Test after test, speakers and subwoofers with bland foam construction quickly dried out and easily deteriorated. MB Quart knew there had to be a more stable material to use which soon was discovered.  Additional improvements eventually included a UV treatment to increase reliability even more!

WideSphere Design

The Titanium WideSphere tweeter is a new inverted dome design providing 30 kHz of usable frequency range. The unique tweeter is designed to provide equal performance in both on-axis and off-axis configurations. With 180 degree sound dispersion technology, the tweeter eliminates high frequency loss allowing you to position or mount almost anywhere! Flush, angle, or top mounting methods are held securely with aerospace adhesives creating a long lasting, durable installation.

Crimping and Stripping?

Forget about crimping conductor end sleeves! Spring loaded terminals can be connected twice as fast making your install quick and easy. The connection is tight and resistant to all sorts of vibrations allowing you to be stress free when it comes to any loose wires.

Grill or No Grill

The Component speakers also feature a grill piece with removable mesh for a progressive look. As compared to Onyx series, Reference speakers offer better frequency response and more versatile options with enclosures.

The new MB Quart Reference MYKRO amplifiers are available in a 4-channel, 5-channel, and a monoblock configuration. All of them use Class D technology, and the four and five channel are both full-range Class D amps.

Each amplifier has a Q-Stasis pre-amplifier circuitry stage. This circuitry rejects noise and assures that clean signal is introduced into the amplifier circuitry. The signal that comes into the amplifier from the source unit can vary widely and depending on the length of the RCA cable, there is a nerly certain chance f noise being injected into that signal wire. Signal from a head unit can be as low as 2 volts and as high as 8 volts. It is critical that an amplifier be able to balance this input signal without allowing noise into the circuit. The Q-Stasis Pre Amplifier Stage keeps the signal in balanced, quiet, and ready for the amplification circuit.

These amps are the definite choice for those limited with space in their installation, but still want have a clean, powerful amplifier. The Hybrid Class D topology is designed for a small footprint, but has exceptional sound quality.
