MTX – Serious About Sound

Who is MTX?

MTX Audio is part of the Mitek Consumer Electronics Group, a family-owned American manufacturer that for over forty years has been providing high-performance car, marine, home, and street audio products to customers in over 80 countries around the world.

From the simple beginnings of building speakers from a rural garage to becoming one of the Nation’s largest U.S. manufacturers of high performance car, home, professional and commercial audio products; MiTek Corporation has maintained the vision, leadership, and dedication of Founder and CEO Loyd Ivey. Ivey began his very own company, Ivey Electronics, in 1971 and after a merger with American Case Company in 1974 American Acoustic Labs, or AAL, was born. Soon thereafter MiTek Corporation was founded as the umbrella company to a vast assortment of diverse and innovative audio companies. To this day Ivey remains the visionary leader and driving force behind the MiTek family of companies.

1979 ushered in the MiTek acquisition Matrecs, a manufacturer of mobile audio products which became known as MTX Audio in 1983. As the founding company under the MiTek umbrella, MTX Audio offers the broadest selection of consumer products in the MiTek family. With a sharp focus on the marketplace and ever-changing industry needs, MTX delivers classic, high performance car, home, and professional audio products geared toward audio enthusiasts of all ages and listening preferences. Since its creation, MTX has been the innovator of some of the now standard audio ideas, including inventing the first mobile audio enclosure in 1984.

MTX Audio’s facilities in Phoenix, AZ, Winslow, IL, and Monroe, WI house their engineering teams that design and create all of their products and have been responsible for dozens of patents and innovations including Adaptive Class D amplifier technology, Smart Engage auto turn on circuitry and the JackHammer Superwoofer – the largest production subwoofer in the world.

6OEM vs. Aftermarket. Thoughts???

May 23 at 12:40pm - Jd Thompson

Some newer cars today have a decent sound system that can compete with about $500 worth of upgrades in a stock basic system. However if you want any real power combined with any kind of quality you definitely need an aftermarket system bc even with advanced speaker placement your not going to get alot of power from a factory system even if amplified. So if you want to see more that 110-120db (if your lucky) from your car stereo you need to go aftermarket! And quite frankly my dodge magnum’s factory amplified system is loud but it doesn’t tickle my sweet spot for power!

I love to turn my bass knob down to where there’s no bass to let them think they’re louder, then once the light turns green crank the knob up and watch their heads turn and just stare at me, lol

Audiopipe – Car Audio for the People

Who Is Audiopipe?

Audiopipe was initially established in the United States by Gonzalo “Gonzi” Palenzuela. Gonzi’s inspiration to car audio came from his father who started working with Pioneer Japan in the mid 60’s. Gonzi’s father, Gonzalo Senior, became close friends with then president of Pioneer Mr. Tamura, and Gonzalo Senior’s work brought Pioneer to the number one selling car audio brand in the Caribbean and South America. Gonzi, from early on, had the opportunity of interacting with employees at Pioneer Japan and even staying at Mr. Tamura’s home in Tokyo. In Audiopipe’s initial startup, sales were first launched in the Caribbean, Central and South American regions, and then migrated and spread to the US. The initial focus was designing speakers for the Latin and Reggae sound. As Caribbean customers moved to the states , places like New York, Chicago, Orlando and Miami became hot spots for the Audiopipe brand. The brand name has been synonymous with loud and clear percussion and vocals.

Audiopipe is considered a progressive car audio brand that is at the forefront of the car audio evolution. Audiopipe brought Pro Audio to the automobile and has forever changed the car audio industry. Audiopipe’s unique sound performance runs through a wide variety of genres heard throughout the North America/South America, and Caribbean urban underground music culture. They are founded on the basic principles of hard pounding bass, true life percussion, mid-bass and vocal reproduction. As a car audio manufacturer, Audiopipe takes pride in both meeting the demands of their consumers, as well as their installers. All of their customer and installer feedback is taken into their design and development process, and in adopting this philosophy, it has helped them engage into the endless perfecting of their product’s designs for loud and clear results. Nothing makes the developers at Audiopipe more happy than to hear the enthusiasm in a customer’s voice as they say “I can’t believe that you were able to make what I requested so quickly”.

In 2013 Audiopipe finalized the construction of its state of the art manufacturing facility. Allowing new designs and ideas to come to life quickly and ensuring that those designs are manufactured to the highest standards.

Audiopipe, High Performance

Audiopipe customers have been asking for more power handling and more enduring amplifiers. The 2015 lineup delivers with triple stacked magnets on the TXX-BD3 series, sound quality with high power in the Q-12 driver, and true spec output from the APCL family of amplifiers. Not only do these models handle more power and output more power, they are specifically designed to handle and output that high power for an extended period of time. Even better, they are engineered to be affordable and enjoyed by everyone!

‘Quality’ is the theme behind the Q-12, and it is clearly seen in the overall build of the driver. A Quad stacked 250oz magnet increases the magnetic field surrounding the oversized 3″ 4 Layer voice coil, generating a mechanical force that causes the coil to move back and forth. The Q-12 features Edge Extension technology that provides maximum flexibility under extreme excursion with the advantage of a greater cone surface.

The ever popular TXX-BD3-12 is equipped with a 3.3-inch 4 layer black aluminum voice coil, a 204oz triple stacked magnet, and a motor capable of handling a rated 900 watts RMS, giving them the size and power capacity for extreme endurance challenges. Its size, configuration, and power ratings makes it a perfect match for the very attractive Audiopipe APCL-15001D.

The only product in the Audiopipe lineup that is more popular than the BD3 drivers, is the Audiopipe APCL-15001D. We set out to see how much power the amplifier could provide and the APCL-15001D proved to not only do its rated numbers at 14V but it also gave us up to 35% more power on a 16V load.

When to Upgrade Your Vehicle’s Electrical System

Your vehicle’s electrical system is crucial to your vehicle’s audio system and how it sounds and performs. Wiring, your car’s alternator, as well as your car’s batteries are all important factors when it comes to your vehicle’s electrical system. In this blog article, we will go over some guidelines to follow when it comes to how and when to upgrade your vehicle’s electrical system. If ya’ll still have questions regarding your vehicle’s electrical system, feel free to comment in the section below this article and we will do our best to help you upgrade your electrical system.

1Upgrading Your Alternator

High Output Alternators

First of all, upgrading your alternator does depend on the type of vehicle you’re working with as well as how much wattage your car audio system needs. But, when it comes to upgrading the alternator, in our experts’ professional opinion, if you are dealing with a system that is anywhere over 1000 watts, it might be a good idea to upgrade your alternator- especially if you are adding more batteries to your car’s electrical system. The key takeaway is that its always better to have too much power than too little power. So, make sure you also have a sufficient amount of batteries to power your system.

2Upgrading Your Car Battery

Car Batteries at Sonic Electronix

It is important to your audio system that you have an adequate amount of batteries powering your system. If not, your system cannot run efficiently. It is recommended that if  you add an amplifier to your system,  you should add a secondary battery as well. And as you add more components to your car audio system, pay attention to how much power your system needs in order to run without failing and add a secondary battery or upgrade your battery accordingly.

3Using a Capacitor

A capacitor is a temporary storage tank for electricity, which charges and discharges electricity at a high speed. Although a capacitor won’t add any additional power to your car audio system, once the capacitor is charged up, it will help stabilize the voltage by providing quick bursts of electricity during peak power demands. Adding a capacitor can fix occasional headlight dimming or other electrical issues within your vehicle. However, their primary use is to help provide your amplifier with a consistent voltage for improved performance. Although capacitors can act as a quick fix solution to your electrical system’s power output, they are usually not recommended. Instead, our experts suggest recommend a secondary battery, as a battery holds power more permanently. However, if you are going to install a capacitor, make sure to get one that is well built, such as NVX’s XCAP1F.

Optimizing an Aftermarket System For the Best Sound

If you’re one of the many people wondering how they can get better sound out of their vehicle’s sound system, well then you’re in luck. In this blog article, we’re going to go over the different ways, our car audio experts believe, are the best and most effective to get better sound out of your car audio system. So, here are the best ways to improve the sound in your vehicle! And as always, if you have any further questions for our experts, feel free to comment below this article!

1Make Sure You Have the Appropriate Wiring

4 Gauge Cable at Sonic Electronix

First off, it is very important that your car audio system (or any audio system for that matter) has the appropriate wiring and that the wiring is in good condition. It is crucial to your audio system that your wiring and connections have good quality wire, good grounds, good tuning, as well as good RCAs. It is also important that you have matching wire and ground sizes, and that your wiring sizes are True to Size. Our experts suggest that if you want a solid connection, you should use Oxygen Free Copper wire instead of Copper Clad Aluminum. Following these tips will ensure that your amplifier, speakers, and subwoofers have a solid connection and are getting the adequate amount of power to run without failing or clipping.

2Install Car Speakers So That They’re Flush With the Door Panel

Second, it is important for your car audio sound system, that your car speakers are installed so that they meet with the door panels. The way our experts accomplish this is either by making a baffle or Speaker Spacers at Sonic Electronixspacer ring out of MDF and seal it with a foam gasket where the back of the speaker meets that plate or the door panel itself. On the front of the speaker where you have the rubber surround, you will want to isolate the exterior with foam. This will make your car speakers have more directional sound toward the outside of the door panel. This, in turn, will make your car speakers’ sound a lot better. Unfortunately, if your aftermarket car speakers aren’t sealed off with foam, there is a chance that your sound is going to feed into the door panel instead of coming out of the speaker’s grill, which will not provide good sound.

3Add Sound Dampening to Your Vehicle

The next tip our car audio experts have for getting the best sound out of your system is to add sound dampening to the vehicle. It is important to your sound’s quality that you add sound dampening to the door panels. This will make your car speaker’s sound much more solid than it would sound without sound dampening. Since the door acts as an enclosure for your midrange frequencies, so the more sealed off the door is, the better midbass you will get in your system.

4Make Sure Your Subs Have the Right Enclosure

It is crucial for your car audio’s sound, specifically for those lower frequencies within your system, that your subwoofers have the correct type and size of enclosure. Pay attention to the box specifications that your subwoofers need and make sure that your prefab or custom built subwoofer enclosure comes as close as possible to those specifications. In addition, make sure that whatever box you do get, that it is going to fit your vehicle and that it will sound good in your vehicle. If you are building a custom subwoofer enclosure, it is always a good idea to tune the sub enclosure for your specific vehicle.

5Have Adequate Power for Your Audio System

High Output Alternators

It is incredibly important that you have enough power running your system. First, you should make sure you have the correct type and amount of car batteries (also called power cells) running your audio system. In addition, your system may require that you invest in an upgraded alternator or a secondary battery.

We hope these car audio sound tips helped some of you guys out there! Until next time, we’ll cya later!
